When did Volkswagen start making Porsche?
Volkswagen did not start making Porsche, but rather, both companies have a connected history. The Porsche brand was founded by Ferdinand Porsche in 1931 as a consulting firm. The first car produced under the Porsche name, the Porsche 356, was launched in 1948, after World War II.
Volkswagen played a pivotal role in the development of the Porsche 356, as it was built through a partnership with Volkswagen, and many components were derived from the Volkswagen Beetle. In 1963, Ferdinand Porsche's son, Ferdinand "Ferry" Porsche, established Porsche AG as a manufacturer of sports cars.
In more recent history, Volkswagen acquired a controlling stake in Porsche in 2009, and by 2012, Volkswagen AG fully integrated Porsche into its automotive group. So, while Volkswagen didn't start making Porsche, the two companies have been closely linked for many decades.
