During my training, I had the opportunity to engage in extensive hands-on fieldwork that was both enlightening and practical, providing me with invaluable real-world experience. ### 11.1 Preparation for Field Work One of my first tasks involved clearing an area of land in preparation for planting. I quickly learned that understanding the various tools used in this phase was crucial for optimizing efficiency and ensuring a successful start to the planting process. ### 11.2 Ridges Creation I found that creating ridges was a vital step for ensuring proper drainage, especially in our region, where heavy rainfall is common. This process not only improved our soil management but also helped prevent waterlogging, which can harm young plants. ### 11.3 Application of Manure Using poultry droppings as a natural fertilizer became one of my favorite parts of the process. I enjoyed seeing how enriching the soil with these nutrients set the stage for robust crop growth. It was gratifying to know that we were contributing to healthier plants through sustainable practices. ### 11.4 Crop Planting When it was time to plant, I helped select cassava and maize as our main crops, recognizing their significance as staples in our community. I learned the importance of carefully handling seedlings and maximizing spacing to facilitate growth, which deepened my appreciation for efficient planting techniques. ### 11.5 Weeding and Maintenance Routine weeding became a regular part of my activities, and I understood how critical it was for reducing competition for nutrients among crops. Additionally, I learned the importance of maintaining the ridges we created earlier; this not only helped manage moisture content but also ensured that our crops thrived throughout their growth cycle.
